Cologne/Düsseldorf, 16 May 2008. On Tuesday, the EURO ID 2008 trade fair opened its doors (13–15 May 2008, Cologne). All prior expectations were topped: 50% more exhibition space was sold and 108 companies (20% more than in 2007) presented their goods and services for three days to over 3,000 trade visitors. The number of visitors also increased over last year's figure. The companies presented products and services from the world of RFID and Auto ID. “My first impression is that the EURO ID fair is developing positively from year to year, and also attracting increasing numbers of exhibitors and visitors,” said Cologne's mayor Josef Müller in his welcoming speech at the fair's opening. The mayor also welcomed the fact that EURO ID is increasingly drawing an international audience. For the first time this year, three exhibitors from China were included in the line-up. For this reason, Frithjof Walk from the industry federation AIM calls the trade fair an “enormous communication platform”; commenting, “that's why we need this fair! Discussions take place here that allow us to develop further.” As a network of 900 member companies (with 150 of these based in Germany alone), AIM wants to have a positive effect on markets. The instruments for this include standardisation, communication, training and advanced education.
