2007/2008

1) Main themes for EURO ID 2008
EURO ID 2007 successfully made the transition from a hardware, components and equipment show to a solution-focussed and application-oriented trade fair. In 2007 the event will became a platform for dialogue and communication that bridged the gap between man and technology and between machine and the business sector. EURO ID 2007 was the breakthrough as the European platform for the RFID- and Auto-ID-Industry – as well for suppliers and distributors as for users. 2008 this forceful fundament has to be developed continuously. 2008 will further more focus on the complementary applications options for RFID and Barcode Systems.

Cross-sector and cross-company approach
The relevant Auto ID technologies, such as barcode (2D / 3D) and RFID, continue to form the mainstay for innovative areas of application for mobile data acquisition and communication. “Ubiquitous identification” and “ubiquitous computing” are more and more taken for granted. Data should be available to authorised users in real-time and should be made accessible everywhere, at any time of the day and irrespective of the existing IT infrastructure. It must be possible to process these data when and where they are required by the business operation. Such a capability forms the bedrock of industry solutions and cross-sector and cross-company systems. At the same time ever closer links are to be forged between the highlyspecialised SMEs that tend to make up the Auto ID sector and the globally active IT and user companies, such as logistics
groups, the motor industry and international trading corporations – in other words the global players.

Focus on solutions and applications
It will only be possible to meet the requirements of the Auto ID and RFID markets, and to gear up to the developments and forward-looking applications, by involving all the individual components in a way that targets comprehensive end-to-end solutions. These challenges were recognised by trade visitors to EURO ID 2007 and will bring into even sharper focus the range of products on display at EURO ID 2008. This particularly involves the portrayal of mass applications and the simple
integration of Auto ID hardware and Auto ID solutions in the form of universal IT infrastructures. All the market leaders in software, databases, operating systems and infrastructure have now recognised the importance of automatic identification for building intelligent solutions and for supporting future-oriented business processes. This means modern production control and automation (just-in-sequence delivery), product lifecycle management (PLM), intralogistics and distribution logistics, pick-by-voice systems, streamlined stock control, reducing the bullwhip effect, etc. In the services sector electronic document management and asset management (which can process any type of container and multi-use packaging) are now used extensively as a way of reducing capital tie-up.

Selected themes for EURO ID 2008

  • Comprehensive end-to-end solutions and universal data communication
  • Ever closer integration of operating systems using printers and mobile scanners etc.
  • Standardised plug and play solutions for Auto ID hardware and software
  • Integration of RFID tags via readers and up to and including managed services applications
  • IT (firmware / edgeware / middleware / ERP) meets hardware (development of RFID infrastructure level)
  • Various embodiments for the “internet of things”
  • Mobile data acquisition and mobile data communication
  • Decentralised solutions, applications and near field communication (NFC)
  • Tracking and tracing products and containers

Focus on new markets and partners
In 2008 EURO ID will again be focussing on identifying new markets, presenting novel technologies and discussing the latest hypes that may develop in markets such as the health service, the pharmaceuticals industry, medicine distribution, hygiene, foodstuffs and medical technology – areas that are now under huge pressure to improve efficiency and in real need
of effective anti-counterfeiting measures.

  • More than 100 companies joined the fair - this means a plus from 25%
  • More than 20% plus on sold sq. m. compared to 2006
  • More than double as much pre registered visitors than 2006
  • The very ambitious target, 3,000 AUTO ID interested people over all three days of the fair, was a little exceeded - this means once again after 2006 a real precision landing!
  • About 20% international partners and AUTO ID interested exhibitors and guests - this means a consolidation compared to 2006 (plus many global players!)
  • More than 25% sq. m. rebooking at venue for 2008.
  • Further more additional 25% sq. m. are fixed reservations for 2008.
  • The growth target 2008 is to develop and increase all major success criteria once again 10% minimum. (By the way: 2007 all success criteria increased in minimum for 20%! – the number of visitors even by 50%!
